Apple MacBook has a new rival – and it is thinner, lighter, and has a fingerprint scanner – will have to put the device through its paces ourselves to find out whether or not that’s true, but regardless, the in-built fast-charge technology should top-up the lightweight laptop’s battery up to 60 per cent capacity in just 49 minutes.

ZenBook 3 starts at a surprisingly-reasonable $999, some £680 converted, with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and 256GB SSD.

If you want to increase the SSD to 512GB, it’ll cost you $1,499, or £1,030. And if you’re feeling particularly flash, you can top-out the ZenBook 3 with a Core i7 processor, 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM for $1,999, or £1,380.

For comparison, Apple MacBook is available with a 1.1GHz Intel Core m3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD hard drive for £1,049.

Or 1.2GHz Intel Core m5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD hard drive for £1,299.
