PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Pawtucket are searching for a woman who was caught on camera stealing a laptop from a person who advocates for the state’s homeless.
Jason Cook said he had his laptop swiped by a female customer who came into Thrift Bargains to exchange some clothes.
In surveillance video from the store, you can see the woman grab the blue laptop and shove it into her bag when Cook turns his back.
“She stole it from us,” Cook said. “It’s a very low down dirty thing to do.”
According to Cook, he used the laptop to run his Feed RI Homeless initiative after struggling with homelessness himself.
“I’m working a full-time job right now trying to support this organization,” he said. “This laptop is for Feed RI Homeless. It was to help us keep track of our donations and our funding and basically all of our expenses.”
Cook said he is only interested in getting the computer back to help with fundraising – so if the woman returns it by this weekend, he will not press charges.
