PUNE: The Nigdi police recently arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly stealing a laptop from a flat in Nigdi. The police have recovered the laptop worth Rs 40,000 from the suspects.

The Nigdi police team led by senior inspector Vijaykumar Palsule has detained the minor on a tip-off.

Palsule said that the police constable Sunil Shinde received a tip-off that one person would be coming to Tilak bus stop in Nigdi for selling a laptop. “We laid a trap near the bus stop and noticed one youngster carrying a plastic bag in his hand. When we found his movements were suspicious, we approached him,” Palsule said.

Palsule said that seeing the police team, the boy started running away. “We detained him after a brief chase,” Palsule said.

When the police checked the plastic bag, they found a laptop worth Rs 40,000 in it. “During the questioning the boy admitted that he had stolen the laptop from a flat in Nigdi,” Palsule said. “The boy revealed that he was in preparation of selling it off.”

The police are investigating whether the boy was involved in any other thefts. The investigating team comprised assistant inspector Devendra Chavan, police constables Santosh Kshirsagar, Vinayak Jadhav, Sanjay Margale, Sandip Patil, Chetan Sawant and Prasad Kalate.
