Hillary Clinton campaign staffers’ laptops stolen in Philadelphia – CBS News

Police are investigating the theft of Hillary Clinton campaign staffers’ personal belongings from a vehicle in Philadelphia, according to the campaign.

The items stolen from the three advance staffers included “backpacks and computers,” Stephanie Formas, a campaign spokeswoman, said in a statement to CBS News Saturday.

The theft occurred around 8 p.m. Friday, CBS Philadelphia station KYW-TV reports. The rear passenger window of the SUV was broken.

A campaign source told CBS News at 11 p.m. Saturday that the laptops have been recovered and returned to their owners.

Philadelphia police told CBS News on Saturday night that a 27-year-old man was taken into custody in connection to the theft. Charges are pending, police said.

“According to the Philadelphia police commissioner, this appears to be a routine theft, and local law enforcement is handling the matter,” Formas said. “We have confidence they will resolve it.”

The Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security have also been notified as a matter of standard procedure and are working with Philadelphia police in the investigation.

Clinton and her campaign are expected in Philadelphia Saturday afternoon, attending a concert in the key battleground state headlined by pop star Katy Perry.
