Seven Iredell County teens face charges after police allege they illegally accessed other students’ school-issued laptops.

The incident was reported Sept. 1 at Lake Norman High School in Mooresville. Two 14-year-old students were served on juvenile petitions, while the other five teens were charged with accessing computers without authorization, a Class I misdemeanor.

All suspects were released to the custody of their parents and were scheduled to appear on court Nov. 10.

Iredell County deputies allege the teens activated webcams and manipulated files on other students’ laptops while on campus. Access was gained through the administrative password, which at least one of the teens uncovered through manipulating his own laptop, deputies said.

All students were suspended from school along with being charged.

No personal data, testing materials or grades appear to be affected by the incident, deputies said.
