CES 2016: Alienware Unveils World’s First OLED Gaming Laptop – IGN

Alienware announced the world’s first gaming laptop featuring an OLED display. OLED offers a few distinct advantages over the traditional LCD panels found in notebooks and monitors like deeper blacks since there’s no need for a backlight and lower latency. In fact, Alienware claims OLED enables the display to have a one millisecond refresh rate.

While OLED screens have been seen in smaller devices like cellphones and even non-gaming laptops, Alienware is the first to market with an OLED gaming laptop with the display technology. OLED panels used to be prohibitively expensive in larger sizes but they’re finally affordable enough to be placed in laptops like the Alienware.

Other than the new OLED screen, the Alienware 13 will be identical to its non-OLED siblings. Pricing will also stay consistent with its previous Quad-HD display model, with OLED models starting at $1499. You can expect to be able to buy the new Alienware 13 with an OLED display in mid-April.
