Madison County investigators are searching for a burglar with an apparent sweet tooth after an overnight break-in at Honeypie Bakery.
AL.com news partner WHNT News 19 reports that one or more suspects busted open the front door and emptied a display case full of prepackaged desserts. Mary Ann Locke, one of the owners of the bakery, told the television station that a laptop was also taken, as were an assortment of meat rubs and flavored salt.
“Someone has enough butt rub and flavored salt to smoke, maybe, fifty pounds of pork,” Locke told WHNT.
No cash was taken, and the bakery’s equipment was not damaged.
“It’s inconvenient, but it could’ve been a lot worse,” Locke said.
Investigators told WHNT, however, that a vehicle was also taken from the business. It was found at another location, burned.
The investigation into the crime is ongoing.
