Best Windows 10 laptops to look forward to in 2015 – Pocket-lint.com
Microsoft has gone all in for its Windows 10 operating system. It’s even created its own hardware with its first laptop – the Surface Book. You can expect plenty of partners to follow the lead with their own Windows 10 laptops soon though and that’s what we are focusing on here.
We’ve rounded up the best Windows 10 laptops that have been announced and are coming soon. This list will be kept updated so you’ll know exactly what’s coming from Microsoft-friendly hardware manufacturers.
For laptops that are available to buy right now check out our 5 best laptops for Windows 10 feature. These are made up of units we’ve reviewed that have impressed us so far.
Below is a look at every laptop that’s coming with Windows 10 as its main operating system. This will include rumoured devices if they’re strong enough to make the list.
Microsoft Surface Book
The Surface Book, Microsoft’s first laptop, is really setting the bar high for Windows 10 devices. This is a 2-in-1 laptop with a stylus and specs that Microsoft claim make it the world’s fastest 13-inch laptop.
It’s features a 13.5-inch display with a stunning 3000 x 2000 resolution display for a pixel density of 267ppi. The display also sports 100 per cent sRGB colours and a 1800:1 contrast ratio. Thanks to a PixelSense build, the Gorilla Glass 4 is so slim and closely bonded that touch and 1024 point pen sensitivity should be extremely accurate.
Powering the laptop is either an i5 or i7 sixth gen Intel Core processor supported by up to 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. There’s also an Nvidia GeForce GPU with GDDR5 memory in the keyboard section for some serious image processing power.
The Microsoft Surface Book starts at $1499 and is thought to be available later in the year.
HP Spectre x2
HP, hot on the heels of Microsoft, revealed its Spectre x2 laptop 2-in-1. It’s not packing quite the high-end specs of the Surface Book, but then it’s not got that price tag either.
The 12-inch touchscreen on the Spectre x2 is 1080p and it comes with HP Active Pen stylus interactivity. It’s powered by an Intel Core M processor and has up to 256GB storage.
An 8-megapixel rear camera and front-facing RealSense 3D camera are built in, as are Bang & Olufsen tuned dual speakers in the tablet and keyboard sections. Connectivity includes two USB 3.0 Type-C ports and 4G with 250MB free each month thanks to HP DataPass.
The HP Spectre x2 is available in October from £849.
Toshiba Satellite Radius 12
Toshiba wants to rock the laptop world with its 12.5-inch Satellite Radius 12 that packs a hefty 4K display. That’s a 3840 x 2160 resolution screen meaning 352ppi in an LED touchscreen.
The touchscreen, like most laptops now, will be detachable to let it double up as tablet but it still has a ‘proper’ keyboard and powerful specs. A sixth gen Intel Core i7 will power the laptop backed by 8GB or RAM and 512GB storage.
Crammed into the 15.4mm thick form are two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.1 Type-C and a 4K-capable HDMI out. Despite all that, battery life is claimed to last for eight hours on a charge.
Price has not been announced but the laptop is due in 2015.
Acer Predator 17
Acer wants to wow the gamers out there with its Predator series. The Predator 17 and 15 laptops pack in serious power for gaming on the go.
On top of the latest sixth gen Intel Core i7 processor there’s a Nvidia GTX 980 graphics chip, up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, and enterprise-class 512GB NVMe PCI Express solid state drives.
The 15-inch model is available in 1080p or 4K display resolution while the 17-inch version in Full HD only.
Both are due on sale in November starting at $1499.

HP Star Wars Special Edition Notebook
HP has announced its new laptop which does have Intel inside, but also a hint of the dark side.
The laptop is built with the Empire side of the Galactic in mind, with a red light up keyboard that mirrors the Sith’s lightsabers. There are some X-Wings around the trackpad so it’s not all evil, although with stormtroopers on the keyboard the dark side is still strong.
The 15.6-inch display is 1080p and powered by a sixth gen Intel i5 or i7 processor, which is supported by up to 12GB of RAM and 2TB storage, plus an Nvidia 940M graphic option.
The HP Star Wars Special Edition Notebook will be on sale later this month from €799.
Dell XPS 15
Dell has announced a power bump to its XPS 13 and an Infinity Display upgrade to its XPS 15 laptop. That means a near bezel-free 4K, 3840 x 2160, resolution screen option on the 15.6-inch display for 282ppi.
Powering the Dell XPS 15 is sixth gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, backed by up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 920M GPU. All this and an 18-hour battery life are crammed into an 11-17mm tapered thickness, apparently making it the smallest 15-inch laptop on the planet.
The Dell XPS 15 will be available 8 October from £1099.
