YWCA To Register Voters For National Voter Registration Day – News On 6

TULSA, Oklahoma -

The YWCA Tulsa is registering voters in Tulsa Tuesday to celebrate the national holiday, which follows Monday’s first presidential debate between candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Each year, Americans celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day in November.

In honor of the holiday, YWCA is hosting voter registration drives at the Patti Johnson Wilson Center and East locations on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

“Voting is not just an important civic responsibility. It allows each person the opportunity to play a central role in her or his own well being,” said Vanessa Finley, CEO of YWCA. “Making your voice heard impacts policy, which ultimately impacts the life of every Oklahoman.”

Thousands of national, state, local organizations and volunteers collaborate to make National Voter Registration Day 2016 happen.

Partner organizations coordinate hundreds of NVRD events nationwide and leverage #VoterRegistrationDay in all social media platforms to drive attention to voter registration and the midterm elections, YWCA officials said.

As a partner of National Voter Registration Day, the Tulsa YWCA will be set up Tuesday to register voters at these locations:
Patti Johnson Wilson Center Voter Registration Drive, located at 1910 S. Lewis Ave., from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.; and YWCA East, located at 8145 East 17th Street, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

YWCA officials said new voters, those needing to update their existing registration and those interested in learning more about this year’s issues can stop by either location.

National Voter Registration Day started in 2012 for prior to the presidential election and is held annually. It is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right-the right to vote.

More than 650,000 Americans have been registered to vote since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day. To find a voter registration site near you, visit the National Voter Registration Day website
