Uh, did Sylvester Stallone forget to thank Ryan Coogler? – USA TODAY
Put your boxing gloves away, people. Sylvester Stallone didn’t exactly forget to thank Ryan Coogler â he just spaced there for a moment. (Maybe it was all those punches to the head?)
âI am the sum total of everyone Iâve ever met, and so lucky Iâve absorbed some of this,â the Creed actor said during his acceptance speech for best supporting actor in a motion picture.
Stallone concluded the speech by paying homage to Rocky Balboa himself: “Most of all, I want to thank my imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend Iâve ever had.”
And cue music as well as shade from director Ava DuVernay and other social media users for the ostensible omission.
But, as it turns out, Stallone did thank Coogler. You just couldn’t hear him over the sound of his 30 seconds being up.
“Did I say Ryan Coogler?” he said, running back to the microphone after the camera cut away. “You are a brilliant filmmaker.”
The actor also thanked Michael B. Jordan as the show went to commercial.
