The Confederate Flag Stars as a Bar to Understanding – Wall Street Journal

I am willing to bet that the average citizen of the state of South Carolina rarely gives the Confederate flag much thought (“Governor: Time to Furl Flag,” page one, June 23). There surely are some who do. I haven’t given it much thought since it was moved to a less prominent location 15 years ago. It should have been relegated to museum status at that time. I am a lifelong South Carolina resident, white and conservative in my political views. And I, like most of my friends, believe the flag should come down.
