Entertainer Rosie O’Donnell appealed to the public Tuesday to help find her 17-year-old daughter, who has been missing for more than a week.

Chelsea O’Donnell was last seen on Aug. 11 as she left home in Nyack, N.Y., with her 6-month old therapy dog, Ms. O’Donnell said in a post on her website.

South Nyack Police received a call from the O’Donnell family to report that Chelsea had not returned home, Sgt. Daniel Wilson said. He said the department is in touch with the family, but so far has not officially classified the teen as a missing person.

A family spokeswoman told CNN that Chelsea ran away from home and suffers from a mental illness.

“Chelsea, like millions of people, lives with mental illness,” family spokeswoman Cindi Berger told CNN. “It has been a difficult road for Chelsea and her family, and they just want her back safe.”

Ms. O’Donnell posted details about her daughter on her website Tuesday, saying Chelsea had stopped taking medication and was in need of medical help for an undisclosed illness.

Chelsea was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, dark ripped blue jeans, gray Converse sneakers and was carrying a black backpack, Ms. O’Donnell wrote.

The teen has a tattoo on her right side of a dream catcher that includes the word “Breathe.” The dog is a nine-pound brown and black terrier named Bear.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact Nyack police at 845-358-0206.
