Republican Debate: Live Updates – New York Times

The Republican debates of late have been marked by shouting, insults, interruption and harsh contrast between the candidates. For the first 15 minutes or so of Thursday’s debate, however, the candidates were sedate.

Even Donald J. Trump, who often is eager to engage his rivals, passed up an easy moment to criticize Senator Marco Rubio.

When the topic turned to Disney and H-1B visas, a program Mr. Rubio supports, Mr. Trump instead simply said that he did not like them.

“I’m a businessman, and I have to do what I have to do,” Mr. Trump said, excusing his own use of the program. But, he added: “It’s very bad for business. And it’s bad for our workers. And we should end it.”

He touted an endorsement from the Disney workers, but rather than mention that they chose him over Mr. Rubio, Mr. Trump simply said that he got the “full endorsement.”
