Obama, Biden Catch up Over Lunch Amid 2016 Campaign Buzz – ABC News

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden had a lot to catch up on.

Just back from two weeks of vacation on the tony Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard, Obama held his weekly lunch with Biden Monday. While the president has been away, Biden has been ramping up discussions about whether he will seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016.

If Biden runs, it would put Obama in an awkward spot.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, his former secretary of state, is currently the front-runner in the Democratic primary. But she’s been plagued with questions about her use of personal email and a private server while in government.

The prospect that Biden and Clinton might both seek the Democratic nomination could put Obama in the position of choosing between two of his closest advisers.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest on Monday left open the possibility that the president would endorse a candidate in his party’s primary and touted Biden’s experience, but he sidestepped questions about whether Obama wanted his vice president to enter the race.
