New Longview wildfire truck in use for first time – Longview News-Journal
The Longview Fire Department deployed its new wildland fire engine and five firefighters to a wildfire Wednesday near Bastrop, Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary said.
It is the first time the engine has been deployed since the Longview Fire Department began using it in September.
The Type III engine is specifically designed to fight wildfires with features such as a 750-gallon water tank and rubber hoses. Standard fire engines have 500-gallon water tanks and fabric hoses.
The department obtained the speciality engine through a Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System grant and is the only department in this area with such a vehicle in service.
