Firefighters prepare for critical fire weather Sunday night – Santa Maria Times (subscription)

Smoke from the Sherpa Fire billows from behind a ridge behind the Solvang Post Office late Thursday afternoon. As of Sunday, the fire had consumed 7,811 acres and was 45 percent contained. More than 2,000 people, including 62 hand crews, are battling the flames with six bulldozers, 130 engines, 10 water tenders, six helicopters and five air tankers.
