Update: Comcast says major West Coast Internet outage is fixed – GeekWire

Update, 11 p.m.: Comcast issued this statement on the outage.

“Our engineers have fixed a DNS issue impacting Internet service and some customers’ VOD on the West coast tonight. We know how important it is to people that their service work all the time and are sorry for this interruption. Our engineering team is now working through a root cause analysis to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Comcast users in the Seattle region and San Francisco Bay Area are reporting a widespread Internet outage tonight.

This map from downdetector.com shows the areas where users are reporting problems.


The company is acknowledging the problem, and says its engineers are working to resolve it.

It appears to be a DNS issue. Users are reporting success by switching to a public DNS.

The dashboard in our Xfinity account says the issue, which is also affecting cable TV, should be resolved by 12:15 a.m. We’re tethering to our phone to post this. Let us know your status and location in the comments below.
