Julian Dibbell: I started out my career as a music journalist and had recently started getting interested in this new phenomenon of the internet. To me it’s an extension of my interest in DIY culture, democratic culture, and pop culture. I was a freelance boho journalist living in the East Village, working at the Village Voice, just starting to get my geek on.
