Shooting inside Corona Costco causes injuries and chaos – 10News
CORONA, Calif. (AP) — A shooting inside a Southern California Costco store Friday night sparked a stampede and left several people injured, witnesses said.
Police swarmed the store and several ambulances were parked outside the store about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) from downtown Los Angeles.
Witnesses told KCAL-TV that a man with a Mohawk haircut was arguing with a woman with a child inside the store when he pulled a gun and began firing.
Christina Colis told the Riverside
that she was in the produce area when she heard six to seven shots.
Colis told the paper that she and other shoppers hid in a refrigerated produce room. She said her mother saw people injured on the floor.
Will Lungo, 45, of Corona, said he and his wife were near the produce and alcohol sections when he heard gunshots.
“I thought maybe someone dropped a bottle of wine, but then I kept hearing shots,” Lungo told the Press-Enterprise. “An employee came in and helped us out through the emergency exit.”
Other witnesses told KCAL-TV that people rushed to the exits. The station reported more than 100 people were outside the store. Others apparently hid in the store’s nearby tire center before police allowed them to go out.
Police did not immediately confirm reports of injuries. About 90 minutes after the shooting reports, the department tweeted that the incident had stabilized.
“There is no apparent threat to our community from any outstanding persons,” the tweet said.
