Seth Moulton enters 2020 Democratic field – The Boston Globe

Representative Seth Moulton has jumped into the 2020 presidential campaign, becoming the latest Democrat to join the race to unseat President Trump.

The congressman from Massachusetts’ Sixth District announced his candidacy in a video on his website.

“I’m running because we have to defeat Donald Trump,” Moulton said. “And I want us to beat Donald Trump because I love this country.”

The 40-year-old from Salem is a Marine Corps veteran who earned a Bronze Star for his service in Iraq and has been in Congress since defeating nine-term incumbent John Tierney in 2014. He joins an already-crowded 2020 field that already includes two candidates from Massachusetts — Senator Elizabeth Warren and former governor Bill Weld.

Moulton has events scheduled in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Iowa scheduled for this week. The Globe reported last week that he had secured campaign office space in Salem and Washington, D.C.

He gained national attention last year for a failed attempt to unseat Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the house.
